Exam seating plans

Exam seating plans in minutes, not a weekend

Pick the exams sitting at the same time, and SchoolEasy seats every enrolled student across your rooms, mixing papers bench by bench, with door charts to print and invigilators assigned.

Built from the exams and rooms you already have

Rooms are set up once: how many benches, and how many seats on each bench. When an exam sitting comes round, choose the date and time, tick the exams that sit together, and generate.

Each exam's students are taken in roll-number order. Rooms fill in the order you list them, bench by bench and seat by seat. If there are fewer seats than students, SchoolEasy tells you how many are missing instead of seating anyone twice.

  • Interleaved: neighbours on a bench sit different papers for as long as each exam still has students to seat
  • Sequential: one exam's students fill the rooms before the next exam starts
  • Seats per bench set room by room, or for every room at once

What everyone gets from one seating plan

Door charts

A PDF for one room or every room, one room to a page: bench, seat, roll number, name, class and paper, with the room's capacity and invigilators.

Invigilators per room

Assign invigilators to each room. Teachers see their invigilation duties in their own account.

Seats on the admit card

Students see their room, bench and seat in their exam routine and on their admit card, so nobody crowds the notice board on the morning of the exam.

Hall attendance per paper

Mark each student present, absent, expelled or exempted for each paper, and print the attendance sheet. Absent students show as Ab in the mark sheet automatically.

Or ask the assistant

Ask the AI assistant to make the seating plan for a sitting; it proposes the plan and you approve it.

Colour-coded room grids

On screen, every room is a grid of benches coloured by class, so a gap or an over-full room is obvious before you print.

Frequently asked questions

How does SchoolEasy mix students from different exams?

In interleaved mode, each seat takes the next student from a different exam in turn, so students on the same bench sit different papers. Once one exam has run out of students, the remaining seats are filled from the exams that still have students, so neighbours can then share a paper.

What happens if we do not have enough seats?

SchoolEasy refuses to generate the plan and tells you how many seats are missing, so you can add a room or seats before anyone is left without a place.

Can benches have three seats?

Yes. Every room has its own number of benches and seats per bench, and you can set seats per bench for all rooms at once.

Do teachers see their invigilation duties?

Yes. Invigilators are assigned per room, and each teacher sees their own duties in their account and in the Android app.

Is there a free seating plan tool without signing up?

Yes. The free exam seating plan generator on this site runs in your browser: add rooms and classes, generate and print door charts. SchoolEasy does the same from your real exams and students, and puts each seat on the admit card.

Which SchoolEasy plans include exam seating plans?

Included in every plan, Free too. The Free plan is free for schools with up to 300 students, with no card needed and no time limit. The pricing page shows every plan in your own currency.
