Student ID card template you can print
Design student ID cards with your school's logo and colour, a photo, class, roll number and a guardian's phone, then print them at the standard 85.6 × 54 mm size, eight to an A4 sheet. Make one card or a whole class from a pasted list. Free, and nothing is uploaded.
Student ID card size: 85.6 × 54 mm (CR80)
The standard student ID card size is 85.6 × 54 mm, which is 8.56 × 5.4 cm or 3.37 × 2.125 inches. It is called CR80, the same size as a bank card, so it fits standard holders, lanyard sleeves and laminating pouches.

What to put on a student ID card
An ID card is read in two situations: at the gate, where it shows a student belongs, and when it is lost, where it has to find its way home. Print what serves those two.
- The school's name, logo and colour, so the card is recognisable at a glance.
- A clear, recent photo of the student, facing the camera.
- The student's full name, class and section, and roll number.
- A guardian's phone number for emergencies.
- A valid-till date, so old cards can be told apart from current ones.
- A signature line for the principal or the school office.
- On the back: where to return the card if it is found, with the school's address and phone.
- Two or three short rules, such as carrying the card and reporting a loss.
- Date of birth and blood group only if your school has a reason to show them.
How to print a school ID card at the right size
This template and the blank format both print every card at 85.6 × 54 mm. These settings keep them that size on paper.
Portrait (vertical) card
- Use
- 54 × 85.6 mm
- Why
- The same card turned on its side
Scale
- Use
- 100%, or “Actual size”
- Why
- “Fit to page” shrinks every card slightly
Paper
- Use
- A4, card stock if your printer takes it
- Why
- Thicker paper holds up better in a holder
Double-sided
- Use
- Flip on the long edge, backs mirrored
- Why
- Each back lands behind its own front
Background graphics
- Use
- On
- Why
- Some browsers leave out the colour band otherwise
Print one test sheet on plain paper first and measure a card: it should be 85.6 mm wide.
From a class list to finished cards
List mode makes a card for every student in one go, eight to a sheet.
- 1
Paste the list
Switch to “A list of students” and paste the roll and name, then the guardian's phone, date of birth, blood group and address if you have them.
- 2
Add photos
Pick each student's photo, or name the files by roll number (12.jpg) and choose them all at once to match them up. Photos stay in your browser.
- 3
Print a test sheet
Print one sheet on plain paper at 100% and check the size and the colours before you use card stock.
- 4
Cut and finish
Cut along the card edges with a ruler or a paper trimmer, then laminate the cards or slip them into holders.
Keeping student details safe
An ID card travels outside school and can be lost. Print what is needed on it, and no more.
A contact, not a life story
A guardian's phone number lets whoever finds the card reach the family. A full home address or a date of birth is rarely needed on the card itself.
Nothing is uploaded
This template runs in your browser. Photos and names are never sent anywhere, and they are gone when you close the tab.
Let old cards expire
A valid-till date lets gate staff spot an old card, and makes a lost one less useful to anybody else.
ID cards straight from your student records
In SchoolEasy you design the card once, in Settings: your logo and colour, the photo's shape, which details print and what they are called, the valid-till date, the principal's signature and the rules on the back.
Every student's card then fills itself from their record — class, section, roll number, guardian's phone and photo. Download one student's card from their profile, or a whole class at once, ready to print on A4 or on an ID card printer.
- Photos added on each student's profile, or a whole class at once
- One card, or a class or section in a single PDF
- Valid-till follows the academic session, so nobody types a date
Frequently asked questions
What size is a student ID card?
Most ID cards are CR80, the size of a bank card: 85.6 × 54 mm. This template prints at that size, eight to an A4 page, so the cards fit standard holders and pouches.
Can I download a blank student ID card format as a PDF?
Yes, free and with no sign-up. The PDF has eight blank cards at CR80 size on A4, 2 across and 4 down, with a page of fronts, a page of backs and cut marks. Print it at 100% and fill the cards in by hand.
What is the ID card size in cm and inches?
8.56 × 5.4 cm, or 3.37 × 2.125 inches. It is the same CR80 card, 85.6 × 54 mm, that bank cards use.
How many ID cards fit on an A4 page?
Eight at the standard 85.6 × 54 mm size: two across and four down, with a margin left all round for cutting. This template lays them out that way.
Is a vertical (portrait) ID card a different size?
No. A portrait card is the same 85.6 × 54 mm card turned on its side, so it is 54 mm wide and 85.6 mm tall and fits the same holders. This template prints landscape cards, wider than they are tall.
Are the photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser reads each photo and shows it on the card on your own screen. Nothing is uploaded, and the photos are gone when you close the tab.
How do I print the back of the card?
Choose “Front and back”. Each sheet of fronts is followed by its sheet of backs, mirrored so they line up when the printer flips the page on its long edge. Print a test sheet first to see how your printer feeds paper.
Can I make ID cards for a whole class?
Yes. Paste the class list, one student per line, and add photos one at a time or all at once by roll number. The cards are laid out eight to a sheet, for up to 300 students at a time.
What should go on the back of an ID card?
Where to return the card if it is found, and two or three short rules. The template fills in the school's name, address and contact line for you.
What paper should I use?
Card stock gives the sturdiest cards if your printer can feed it; otherwise print on plain paper and laminate. Your printer's manual lists the heaviest paper it takes.
Can SchoolEasy make ID cards for my whole school?
Yes. Design the card once in Settings, add students' photos, and download a single student's card from their profile or a whole class at once, printed from each student's record. Cards come on A4 sheets to cut, or card-sized pages for an ID card printer.
