What a marksheet should show

A marksheet is read by parents, by the next school and sometimes years later. It has to make sense with nobody there to explain it.

  • The school's name, address and logo, and the title of the sheet.
  • The exam and the academic year or session it belongs to.
  • The student's name, class, section and roll number.
  • Every subject with its full marks, pass marks and marks obtained.
  • Each subject's percentage and, where the school grades, its letter grade and grade point.
  • The totals, the overall percentage and the result.
  • The grading scale itself, printed small, so a grade can be read without looking it up.
  • Attendance, remarks, signatures and the date of issue.

Choosing a grading option

The template can report the same marks three ways. Pick the one your school uses.

  • NEB letter grades

    Each subject shows
Percentage, letter grade (A+ to D, or NG below 35%) and grade point
    Overall
Totals, percentage and a credit-weighted GPA
    Suits
Schools that report with the NEB letter grading table
  • Percentage only

    Each subject shows
    Percentage of full marks
    Overall
    Totals and percentage
    Suits
Schools and classes that report marks without grades
  • Your own scale

    Each subject shows
Percentage and your letter, with a grade point if you give one
    Overall
An overall grade from the total percentage, and a GPA if every grade has points
    Suits
Schools with their own bands, letters or divisions

Pass or Fail is worked out the same way under every option: the result is Fail when any subject is below its pass marks.

Common marksheet mistakes

Each of these turns up in a parent meeting sooner or later.

Totals that don't add up

Adding by hand is where most errors start. Let the sheet add the totals and percentages, then check one subject against the mark book.

Pass marks mixed up with grades

Pass marks decide Pass or Fail; the grade bands decide the letter. A subject can pass on marks and still earn a low grade, so show both.

A GPA without credit hours

When subjects carry different credit hours, a plain average of grade points is wrong. Enter the credit hours, or report percentages only.

Rounding too early

Round the final percentage or GPA, not each subject along the way. Under NEB grading, 89.99% is still an A.

No grading legend

A letter means little to a parent without the scale behind it. Print the bands at the foot of the sheet.

Unsigned sheets

A marksheet usually needs the class teacher's and the principal's signatures, and a date of issue, before it goes home.

Report cards for every student, from one mark sheet

A template is fine for one student. For a whole school, SchoolEasy keeps the marks: teachers enter them in a spreadsheet-style mark sheet, or the AI assistant enters a whole sheet at once, and SchoolEasy works out each student's percentage, GPA and overall grade on the grade scale your school sets in Settings.

Report cards print as a PDF per student or as one PDF for a whole class section, and parents and students download their own. Exams, marks and report cards are in the Free plan; a custom report card design is on the Gold and Platinum plans.

  • Your letters, minimum percentages and grade points, set once
  • Marks entered once, in a spreadsheet-style grid
  • One PDF per student, or one for a whole class section
  • Parents and students download their own

Frequently asked questions

Is this marksheet template free?

Yes, with no account and no limit. It runs in your browser, and nothing you enter is uploaded.

How are the grades worked out?

A subject's percentage is its marks obtained divided by its full marks. With NEB letter grades, 90% and above is an A+ (4.0) down to D (1.6) for 35% to under 40%, and below 35% is NG. The GPA weighs each subject's grade point by its credit hours.

How is Pass or Fail decided?

By pass marks. If any subject is below its pass marks the result is Fail, and that subject's marks carry an asterisk. Leave the pass marks blank for a subject that has none.

Can I use my school's own grading scale?

Yes. Choose “Your own scale” and set each grade's letter, its lowest percentage and, if you use them, its grade point. Without points the sheet shows letters and an overall grade, but no GPA.

Can I print marksheets for a whole class?

This template makes one marksheet at a time. SchoolEasy prints report cards for a whole class section as a single PDF, from the marks teachers enter once.

How do I save the marksheet as a PDF?

Press Print / Save as PDF and choose “Save as PDF” as the printer in your browser's print dialog. Use A4 paper at 100% scale.
